At the time in 2019 when the fateful fire destroyed the roof and spire and caused extensive damage to the interior some people said: it's just a building, it's the people that matter more. Those people didn't understand what the Notre Dame means for France, it is so intertwined with the history of the country and so much part of the heart and soul of the French and everyone who feels connected to France. May the reopening of the Notre Dame commence an era of great healing and profound Light for everyone in France and in the whole wide world and may the sacred sites of old never be desecrated or destroyed again.

There is enormous relief among a great majority of people in Syria about the opposition victory by a joint effort of Hayat Tahrir al Sham and other rebel forces over the Assad regime that for decades has brutally suppressed protests and dissent among the population, that has tortured and starved many thousands of political prisoners, obliterated cities held by rebels and caused millions of Syrians to flee the country. Various prominent commenters have made sensible statements of how important it is that a new inclusive governance is formed where all voices can be heard, the interests of all ethnic and religious groups in the country can be served and that stability and rest is brought back to the country. Very major investments will be needed to repair all the damages of over 13 years of civil war.
