Begging for Forgiveness But Being Denied

  Just one painful lesson about forgiveness we learned: Years ago, Don had caught his wife cheating on him.  She was rather proud and defiant when she was caught. Hurt, Don immediately filed for divorce and kicked her out of the house, requiring that she get nothing except 50/50 visitation with their two kids.  The family was devastated.  The kids suffered because their parents weren't together.  Over the next few months, in depression, she lost lots of weight.  One day she came back to their house to beg Don for forgiveness.  He wouldn't.  She fell to the floor and held onto his leg as he walked around, but he rejected her plea, until her brother picked her up and took her away.  Within four years, this broken woman died of breast cancer and the broken heart for what she had done.  Don deeply, deeply regrets what he did. He was grateful for our scriptural exploration of total forgiveness.  It hit him deeply when we read together that if we do not forgive others of their sins against us, we won't be forgiven for our sins.  Don now looks forward to meeting her in the next life and reconciling with his wife who he misses.

We had many discussions, and after many days he finally started coming to the nightly Bible Study.  I was surprised by his being able to drop to his knees to pray at whatever time of the day, no matter how many people were milling around him.  Though he was grateful for my coming to his pod, he blessed me with his great example.
